Did any of you with cats (or other pets) find they acted differently towards you when you were pregnant?

My cat did, but then we were both pregnant at the same time and due 3 weeks apart lol. That said, she was a stray, and she came upto me in the garden and followed me into my house and was very loving from the start. I was 5 months pregnant at the time, and at that point she wouldnt have been pregnant. Now the other strays in the area do a runner as soon as eye contact is made!

i have heard that cats can sense the baby and can react differently to you! Hope it doesn't become a prob - most are fine but i did have an acquaintance who had to get rid of her cat as it was jealous. as i say - most are caring and protective!

Oh, nothing wrong at all! I've noticed that Dinger has been different in all pregnancies - more affectionate and cuddly. She'd stopped sleeping on our bed since we got Brillo but started again when I was pregnant. Brillo is more affectionate too and sleeps nose to nose wit me if let her, follows me everywhere etc. I noticed when we went to Kathryn's yesterday that her cat was giving me the same 'I love you so much' look that mine do when I'm pregnant and wondered if it was a universal thing, maybe to do with the hormones.

I reckon there may be some truth in it Louise. I wouldn't read too much into my cat giving you the eye though, she probably fancies you!

Yes she is bless her! She doesn't take much interest in guys, but when women come round she's a total tart rubbing round their legs!

I just had to pick up on this since I am now the owner of this cat and also pregnant... She has become almost 'clingy' to me in the previous weeks and as soon as I sit down, she wraps herself around my tummy, almost like a shield (though I'm sure this will change once the baby starts kicking lol). But she does follow me everywhere and meows at me until I sit down so she can lay on me! I can't work out if it's the extra warmth, protection or some other odd cat sixth sense type hocus pocus!

My cats are like that too Lea, they really cannot leave me alone at the moment. Also, the last few nights Brillo has done this weird thing where she lies near me on the bed and stares whilst lying in a quite submissive position, purring loudly and occasionally making these odd little chirruping noises. Kester's convinced it's to do with the pregnancy.

Mew does the same... Last night, she managed to climb her way under the duvet, then wrapped around my tummy and started purring! She's an odd little cat most of the time anyway, but lately, she's off the charts!

She also do the staring thing.... massive eyes (can barely see the green), very lovingly!

Is Mew Brillo's mum or sister? I can never remember! Sounds like they're both as mental as each other.

my dog was the same - used to sit at my feet and follow me around everywhere

I believe she is Brillo's mum... Mew is the stray that adopted Claire and then had the kittens :)
